Rose Colored Glasses - Poem by christy york

I thought I could see
Through my rose colored glasses
But they clouded my view
Of how dirty this life is.

Now my glasses are off
And my vision is clear
And the world I see now
Is covered in fear.

Fear when I'm lost
And no direction to take
Fear of a future
That's covered with hate.

Fears about dying
With no will left to fight
Fear of the dark
When I can't see the light.

My world that had glistened
Is soiled and grim
And stained from the lies
That I told as I sinned.

And though I've tried hard
To be a good friend
I'm still on my own
When it comes to my end.
