Rotten Egg In A Global Shell Poem by Venmathi R

Rotten Egg In A Global Shell

The new millennium just born
In a world small and snugly
Roughly the reap of 100 years
Toil, turmoil and change.

Like a bold in the blue
Giant glaciers of globalisation
Sweeping the whole world
Eating into the very vitals
E-mail, E-call, E-novel
And E-nonsense everywhere
Eyes blindfolded
With priorities jumbled.

The rural light
Clouded, dim and dark
The urban elite
Beneath the saffron sky
Opiated by Mega-serials
ABCs of computers
Thrust into little heads
In the maddening competition
The HIATUS ever-widening.

Fast buck doubles and trebles
Earned money limps to double
'Survival of the fittest' theory'
Being the slogan of the day
Poor Darwin would wryly smile
For some to live
he never meant.

All gains made
Slowly but surely dwindling
To complacence and inaction
With sinister designs
And anarchy here and there
Democracy pensive in its looks
With clenched fists
Beneath the chin.

Finally, in the medals tally
Where do we stand; Nowhere
But for Miss beauty crowns
And zero Olympic golds.

Are we really Global?
