The sky is so sad, it's been crying all night
It's an ominous sign that something's not right
There's blood on the roadway, there's blood on the trail
The rain that's a'falling will soon turn to hail
Waters are rising, there's no turning away
Migration is endless, there's no other way
Those at the border are forced to turn back
Their futures are bleak, their futures are black
There's a train that's been travelling with it's empty boxcars
Searching for the weak under dark stars
The tears that are flowing are for Catholic and Jew
For Muslim and Hindu, for me and for you
The poets had warned us, this wasn't a coup
But you do what you have to and you don't misconstrue
There was talk of a crack with light coming through
Or was that just a joke? Did we not have a clue?
The mess we've created with coldness of heart
And ice in our veins, was to keep us apart
The future is fragile but hope may be found
If we seek out the truth before we all drown
