Runaway Poem by Alfred Ramos

Runaway

She had uncomfortable eyes
She stood out in a crowd of sighs
Slightly scared eyes about to tear
Her skin tone that of fear
Her eyes are barely sane
Life has her by the jugular vein
Lacking sparkled glares of joy
Feeling like a discarded, unwanted toy
Yet the inferno rages deep within
Chills reside permanently on her skin
Her smile had a downward turn
She could turn it right side up if she had the energy to burn
Her world has been turned upside down
Her pillow tonight will be the ground
She can hardly speak
Her lonely heart is beating weak
People just walk by and give a shrug
When all she need is a comforting hug
The choices left are institution
Or the darkest night of prostitution
The chances of survival are pretty slim
The outlook of the world pretty dim
A lost and hollow look she owns
That goes with her dress of skin and bones
A paradoxical combination of failure and despair
With no pretense that someone might just care
She left a sinister world darker than hell
But now she has fallen down a mythical wishing well
Like most she will be swept under the rug
When all she needed was a loving hug
An embrace that offered a glimpse of hope
Now she is losing her grip from a burning rope
What is left to tell
Sometimes life is hell
Will we pick up those who fell
Or ignore another cancer cell
And bid the day farewell
