Running Poem by Richard Burgess

Running

I saw a bloke the other day jogging down my street,
Not a wholly active chap but one I'd like to meet.
I stopped him in his tracks to talk and he began to stutter,
I said "Mate, give up this gig, you look a total nutter"

"If man had meant to run" I said "We'd have trainer's not just feet"
"Come in and drink a beer with me, perhaps a bite to eat"
"Brother what's your problem? "
"I like to feel my youth! "
"The problem is at our age that's a little bit uncouth! "

"We all must die of something"
"Don't make yourself a twit"
"It's best to smile and fade away? "
"Not die just getting fit"

"Accept yourself for who you are"
"Knackers to the rest"
"Be good enough for you to be"
"Life, it ain't a test"

"It's not a dress rehearsal or academic state"
"Don't worry ‘bout the problems left by Bill or Sue or Kate"
"Try to be just who you are, it really ain't that bad"
"If your girl don't love you just for you she really must be mad! "

"Thank-you" said the jogger, prior to walking on his way,
"I really did enjoy our chat, we'll meet another day"
"I'm sure we will" I said to him as he began to move
I felt like I had helped the man get back into his groove.

The moral of this tale to you is meet me where I'm at
It really doesn't matter if you're gay or thin or fat!
It matters to be happy and help each person through
Not be another animal and just keep being you!
