Russia-Ukraine Warns Poem by Natasa To

Russia-Ukraine Warns

10. Russia-Ukraine War

When will this thirst for freedom be quenched?

When will our love of slavery die?

When will the Ukrainian mothers' fetters break?

When will the war in Ukraine cease?
Wasn't there another kind of love,

Nurtured by our noble Ukrainian race?
Lead us, great men, to victory!
Is it right that we remain trapped in war?
Are famine and disease all we must endure?

For whom, then, are the food and fruits?

Will you abandon humankind,

Those who look to you with love?

Can mothers cast away their children,
Whatever their race?
Brave warriors! Oh, Buddha!

Stand against the demons of war,

Against the cruelty of Putin.
Where is your law?

Are not innocent lives being lost?

Will you revive our hope

And chase our fears away?
When will this thirst for freedom be quenched?

When will our love of slavery die?

When will the Ukrainian mothers' fetters break?

When will this suffering cease?
Are famine and disease our only share?

For whom, then, are the food and fruits?

Will you abandon us,

Those who seek your help?

Can a mother abandon her suffering child?
Bombs have fallen;

Babies and pregnant women have died.

In this terrible war,

Innocent Ukrainian citizens

Continue to suffer and lose their lives.
