Rust Belt Apartments Poem by Tom Thompson

Rust Belt Apartments

You gave me some
Steaming coffee from your Thermos
Maryland smokestacks behind us
But there's no smoke any more

I line up the coffeecup
With the top of Big Bertha
And see her brewing in her finest hour
Still the biggest pot of coffee I've ever seen

Coffee fuels the Building
Keep the concrete jacket
And install a spiral staircase
These smokestacks for the gentry now
