S0mething I Lool At-392

SOMETHING I LOOK AT-392
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

You never understood me,
nor did I make myself understood.
Life drifted away from us,
and one not-so-fine morning,
I found myself in a barren land—
nothing to look forward to,
nothing to live for.

Do you know
how I pass my days,
how I endure each moment without you?
In a heartbeat,
you made me an outsider,
shutting the door forever.

Do you not feel my pain?
Do you not pity me—
a man whose only treasure
was your presence,
ruthlessly stolen by time and fate?

I know I am different,
not raised or molded as you were.
You are the glitter of a palace;
I am but a passerby.
I see the world differently,
but my love for you is matchless—
it asks for nothing but your smile.

Nothing wounds me more than your absence.
I do not know how to live
when you no longer look my way.
Better to perish
than endure this life—
a burning cauldron,
where I am but a helpless fish.

I have lost the right to call you my love.
But if you can, grant me this:
Open the door—
let me see you from afar.
Is that too much for a man
you once loved?
Or will you let him sink,
deeper and deeper,
into the abyss of no return?
