Sacred Love Poem by Esther McCallister

Sacred Love

Yours Forever he professed
No tears to stain your face.
No sadness shall you endure.
Your devoted heart never to forsake.
He promised from our bed to never stray.
This heart to ne'r betray.
Alas and why this soul asunder rent.
Trampled neath the mulling crowd.
Where vultures sit and prey.
Heart cleaved into.
Life's blood flows tween my breast.
Forming insipid pools about the feet.
My ashes tossed about the street.
Where empty faces, cold and
lifeless words repeat
Heart and soul left dead from love's deceit.
From such wounds can ne'r retreat.
So from love's agony I flee
Despise and spurn the promises replete.
His devotion being that cold night alone upon our silken sheets
Another's embrace he did seek, while my lips his name repeats.
Heart and soul left dead my love's deceit.
From these wounds can ne'r retreat.
The thong they look upon my bloodlet face.
A few in pity doth presume.
The vast in arrogance conceive
Love is just a trifle to resume.
