Sacrificial Lamb Poem by Desiree Whitamore

Sacrificial Lamb

i lock eyes with a nonexistent me
the picture pinned on the wall
reminds everyone of what they can't see.
and how ready i am to fall.

i bear the burden of those smiles.
and the gap between my baby teeth
and i'd walk a thousand miles
to bring that time back to me.

I'd crawl around the state
on only hands and knees
to empty my overfilled plate
of those who chose to crucify me

so here's my sacrificial lamb
this picture, i confess
this hasn't ever been my plan
but paper seems to hurt me less
