Sad Dad Poem

Dad we miss your happy face
Now that we are apart
You must know you have a place
Forever in our heart.
We all watched you growing old,
Your hair becoming grey,
Your smooth skin growing wrinkled,
Growing weak, day by day.
The light went from your blue eyes
No muscles moved your chest
No sounds left your open mouth
Your body was at rest.
The last day of years of pain,
Confusion and dismay.
Your soul left its living cell:
Your spirit called away.
At last we can remember
The man that we once had.
Your kind, happy, laughing face;
The times when you were glad;
Times when we would play with you
Or picnic on the sand;
When we talked of girls and love
Or when you held my hand.
Dad, we will remember you
and happy years with love.
In our hearts we surely know
You watch us from above.
