Salute To The Combatants Poem by Emmanuel Onabiyi

Salute To The Combatants

By: Onabiyi Emmanuel (Indefatigable Gold)

From far away land,
I heard the echoes of their voices
The lyrics of their songs covered the whole earth
While the bangs of the legs scared death away
These must be the voices of the agile men in my land;
They're called Cadets.

With their right hand they salute our Flag
To honour the unity that bind us together
And to show solidarity to this Nation.

Never have they walked in one but in threes to parade ground
As a symbol of unity.
Though they're from different regions
But in unison they work for the peace of my polity.

At 0200hrs, they wake up daily in their thousands
Ready to battle the enemies of their land
Thou they've no hope of tomorrow
But in ecstasy they swear to protect the sovereignty of this polity.

These are Mopols trained in Mother's Academy
Men who never succumb to defeat nor flee at the war front.
Arise O' compatriots in honour of your Regular Combatants.
