Sand Castles Poem by Eduardo Santibanez

Sand Castles

We built dreams
futures formed from love and hope
Images of things to come, looked clear
What it takes to give up what is still so dear?

A storm blows
Washing away what was not grounded
our tie breaks and love becomes fear
Why are we so far and yet feel so near?

Ravaged by life
Soul and body bleeds, in pain we live
Scars upon scars, our dream at the rear
How to return, how to cohere?

Bewildered, looking back
The dust settles, the past I see clear
Accustomed to pain, but my eyes still tear.
Why a magical life became austere?
Why, tell me why my dear.
