Sappy Colored Dream Poem by James Meaney

Sappy Colored Dream

I have a dream
That a girl sits on an abandoned tree
And I stand at a distance
She finally looks over at me
And then starts painting the branches
With colors of my mind
they blend and intertwine
But my eyes always look back
At Her -
As she paints the leafs
with a colored sap
- She turns
And tells me to walk closer
I stumble, Because I swear she
painted the tree with her eyes
I tell my self shes 'beauty' ten times over
But it's lies -
Her beauty is God given from the skies
Looking up at her from where I stand
She makes small talk And then -
Asks if I'm her man, If I'm Mr. Right
She reaches for my hand insisting that I am
- But my answer comes As I wake up at night.
