Sarah's Past Poem by wild fire

Sarah's Past

Rating: 5.0

She wakes up
in the middle of the night
to the sound of his voice.
He vows her life is his.

When she runs to her car
he is following,
she can hear his panting in her head.
His knife is the rotten apple of her eye.

She drives as fast as she can,
from the past that won't let go.
He's right behind her, no car
just seems to be flying

Then he's in the front seat
next to her, his pulse pounding in her head
She swerves off the road,
and the closest resident hears the screams.

He runs outside in his pajamas,
and opens the car door.
He can't believe what he sees.
His best friend's daughter has a gash in her forehead.

Why is she 80 miles from home?
He grabs her shoulders to steady her,
and she panics. 'Oh God! He's gonna get me!
He's following me! '

He speaks calmly and the voice
she cannot recognize soothes her mood.
'Who's gonna get you? Sarah, slow down.'
She panted like an animal and looked into his eyes.

She finally placed his face
and she finally realized
'He's not coming, it's all just a dream.
It was all just a dream.'

The pastor knew well who'd haunted her dreams,
and he hugged the girl closed to his chest.
Blood on his shirt and hands, he felt her quiver
'I know, Sarah I know. Darling it was all just a dream.'

She opened her eyes and saw her pastor,
a man she knew well as her father's friend.
'Make them stop, Why cant I just wake up? '
They fall to their knees at the crack of dawn.

' I don't know Sarah, I just don't know.'
Her blank eyes and quiet stare told him.
That devilish boy had won and poor Sarah,
was gone and the pastor smiled.

Her dreams would end and as he cradled
the body of the seventeen year old he'd watched grow up,
he looked toward Heaven. 'Thank you, Father.'
Sarah would at last rest in peace tonight.
