Sati-Against My Belief Poem by kalpana shah

Sati-Against My Belief

In every scream from flame rising
I hear my name announce
My heart skip every beat
Deafening my ears, Paralyzing my body
With cold i shudder
From the pyre i hear
Cries your soul with my soul
Questioning me about promises
Once you and i tied
In silence i stand; dumb with no answers
Fuming with rage, fire rise higher and higher
Every ounce of it storming and tearing
My whole being,
not letting peace to sleep in me
Instead lit another fire
Engulfing me with wide mouth
Carrying my body inward
To sleep in the arms of another pyre
A pyre of guilt.. A promise broken! !
It is not that i am scared to die with you
Or not that, i have no love for you
In this world i don't want to line up
In the glory of names, Sati
Which is against my belief
