Say What? Poem by Sandra Regan

Say What?

Rating: 5.0

Spoke to the doc today.
What a beautiful day.
Say what? Say what? What did he say?
Kids doing homework, just another day.
He said to talk to mom one of these days.
I'm done with my homework, can I watch tv now?
If her heart stops, it would be cruel to continue another day.
I want a mermaid birthday party.
Do I know what will happen?
A swim party with lots of friends.
Her ribs and spine will surely break.
Buy me a mermaid fin. A real fin please.
She's frail now and oh so weak.
What's for dinner? I'm hungry.
Say what? Say what? What did he just say?
Prep for dinner. Daddy comes home.
Just let her pass peaceful instead.
How was your day?
She's frail and weak and in lots of pain.
Mommy I have a fieldtrip tomorrow yay!
It would be cruel to let her go on this way.
Phone rings for dad, laughte in the other room.
Think about it instead.
Knitting calms me, but not today.
Say what? Say what? What did he say?
Print me a mermaid, pretty for my room.
Hold it in, don't fill the night with gloom.
Brush your teeth, wash your face, it's bedtime now.
Write a poem, wipe a tear.
Say what? Say what? What did he say?
