School Days Poem by Lily Tan

School Days

Waking up early in the morning,
As the first rays of sunshine tiptoe through our curtains
Throwing our covers over, making our bed,
Then walking like zombies towards the kitchen
Spooning our cereals into our mouths,
With our half-mooned and tired eyes.

At a glance at the clock,
We realise how late we are,
In a flurry, we slip on our horrid uniform,
And run like the wind towards our ride
Making it, only as the bell rings for class.

Whilst listening to the teacher drone in class
Students play their secret games on their laptops
Then shutting them down quickly as teachers walk by,
But they'll only get the student's innocent angel faces in reply
As the teachers give them their suspicious glares

Oh how the minutes tick by in class,
Feeling like the class will only end in a millennium
Finally, the bell of heaven rings
And students rush like a stampede out of the class
Overjoyed like prisoners being released

As we head to enjoy our precious time at break
Swapping lunches, sharing saliva
The times we wished would never end
However, time flies by, and the bell will ring again
Dragging our feet, groaning our complaints
Leaving all the happy laughters behind
