Professor Yvonne Timoianu was the winner of the 1986 international cello competition and has just sent me her rendition of Schubert's EINSAMKEIT.
We have known each other for several years and she's a close and devoted friend. She transposed my MUSIC OF THE SPHERES a few years ago--vide Lim Meng Sing Timoianu in Youtube. She is Romanian but resides in Austria.
Her rendition of EINSAMKEIT is ethereal and sublime and impels me to respond as below:
A heavy feeling weighs
on my weary heart
I struggle to escape
even heavier it exerts-
empty is life
hope has taken flight
the night weeps
and I can't sleep
love is but a memory
to recall is pain and regret -
outside my window
the moon is receding
into the void
and the stars
how they tremble
in the bitter midnight cold
ah, if only I could forget
and empty my heart
of its futile desire
courage I'd pluck
to greet the dawn
as one reborn
oh. I am dying
slowly dying
O fate, lift me up
let me not fade away
in this loneliness
and labyrinth of despair
unloved, unknown
a shadow
a stranger to myself
dissolved, dissipated
alienated and forgotten
