Second Chance Poem by Ash Prabhu

Second Chance

She was a sucker for beautiful men
Easily beguiled into doing their bidding
Until they had no use for her
And memories of their time together were all but a blur
So weak was her will to convert
That time after time she wound up hurt
Until she met a man of great spirit but appalling looks
Who took charge of her and made her see sense
They married and built a life together
But what the man had failed to see however
Is that he was there just to provide for her
Her wandering eye for beautiful men remained
Then, one day, she gave up all pretence of fealty
And took off with her lover to another city
As fate would have it, they did not make it far
He left her and she wound up working in a bar
'I've paid a heavy price for my folly, ' she cried.
'But I must keep my hopes up for I have no one but him.'
And so she waited for the only man who loved her
The days turned to months and months to years
She was all alone with no friend to wipe her tears
Until, one day, he walked into the bar
It was him alright but it felt a bit bizarre
'Aldous! ' she screamed, 'Forgive me.'
A glimmer of hope flickered in her eyes
But Aldous stood mute, a ghost of his former self
'The man lost his memory long ago, ' someone drawled
'Something about a woman he loved...'
'All is not lost, I will nurse him back to health, ' she resolved.
Taking him by the hand, she walked towards a new beginning
Becoming a dutiful wife and living a life with meaning.
