Second Childhood Poem by Claude H Oliver II

Second Childhood

Rising each morning to breakfast prepared by loving hands
Playing in the great outdoors
Picking apples, strawberries, choke cherries, raspberries, maypops
Blackberries, muscadines, peaches and plums
Fishing in the brook, wonderment at grasshoppers
Carefree days of play and wonder
Chased when adulthood called
Responsibility knocking on my door, refusing to be turned away
Life’s classes along the way
Learning continued – lessons changed – life’s tuition costs rising
Transitions – family and friends alike – coming, going
Now free from work’s demands
I live, surrounded by loving heart and hands
Thankful for each morning seen
Each chirping bird heard
Reminiscences of past challenges and lessons
Free to give loving kindness unconditionally given to me
Spared to see a

Second Childhood.
