Second To None Poem by David Smart

Second To None

Across the deeps of space they marched,
Men in all their glory,
Second to none.

Never beaten, never tiring,
Always striving for what was there,
Never lagging, always driving
Into the deeps beyond the air,
Second to none.

In ships they reached the farthest stars,
Beyond the power of sight,
Beyond the reach of light
They penetrated the borders of nothing....
Second to none.

Out of the Universe
Beyond the bounds of space and time
Into the birth of Creation
Farther than they had ever dreamed.
Beyond the bounds of imagination they strode
Second to none.

Never in the history of Creation
Had such a race been born.
Never in all Creation
Was such a race so proud, so lost.
To reach the stars they strove,
Perfecting science, bettering nature.
Out into the deeps they strode
Second to none.
