Secrets Poem by Paige DeRogatis

Secrets

They’re an enemy, a friend,

a master of disguise,

an invincible phenomenon

that our foolish minds devise

They’re concealed in the darkness

They linger in each heart

They protect us from the truth

...yet tear our world apart..

They’re hidden in the souls

Of every human being

They shelter us from pain

but stop our eyes from seeing

One day they’ll be revealed

and we’ll dwindle in distress

Don’t underestimate the power

that a secret can possess
