Seeds Have Grown Poem by Derry Dose

Seeds Have Grown

Two seeds were planted in this room
Where darkness reigned and shadows loomed
One seed was strong and brave and bold
It pierced the soil and sought the gold
The flower bloomed and reached the light
And left behind the dismal night

The other seed was frail and meek
It hid itself and feared to seek
But it too sprouted in its way
And grew in darkness day by day
The flower wilted in the gloom
And longed to see the sun and moon

The days went by and both grew old
With petals dry and stems so cold
One was happy with its fate
The other felt a pang of hate
The flowers came into their view
The plant was moved to somewhere new

Now the plant was all alone
It had no friend, no love, no home
It had no one to share its woes
The other was the one they chose
The plant was lonely and forlorn
It wished it had not been born

The days went by and the plant was still
No one came to help, no one ever will
It saw some light but could not reach
The other plant was like a peach
It had no hope of now or then
This plant was dead and had been

Slowly slowly the more days passed
It waited for its final gasp
This life was dull and dry and vain
It saw some light but felt no gain
Even if it glimpsed some glitter
It was too far and it was bitter
No hope of future, no hope of now
This seed was dry and done somehow

Now its soul caught the light
It was now it felt alright
Nobody knew who it was
It was someone nobody does
