Seeking… Poem by Betty Jo Hilger

Seeking…

When consciousness flies freely
Throughout all time and space
Passing over dreams with just a glance
And sanity is drifting
Unleashed from earthly pace
Traveling on grains of broken sand

My soul could become stranded
Alone and lost at sea
Overwhelmed, engulfed by worldly pain
Wandering, a migrant heart
Devoid of what makes me
Unconscious and naïve, yet bound by strain

Searching unaware, asleep
With thoughts misunderstood
Climbing heights of undetermined aim
Floating lost, an absent hub
Rootless in the flood
Yearning for the peace within his name

Ungrounded and untethered
Unstable and adrift
My empty spirit howling a lament
Are you there?
Why am I here?
Is this all that there is?
Begging, answers ‘fore my time is spent.

Please ground me…
