Selfless - Poem by JAE JAE

selfless.

what is it you want me to do? you taunt me surreptitiously and
I twirl like lilies
budding in fast-forward
on the tight lens
of your sensitive camera—a shutter, quick to close
I capture moonlight in a plastic jar (it’s all I can afford) ,
lugging it meekly to you
to lay it as a stone, some smart offering
hurled softly at your feet.
I want nothing back. it costs too much.
the ringing in my ears won’t stop
the fine delusions, sewn sharp
into a future memory,
lapping low beneath my gray feet, tingling—
the arches of which
fall flat and lose their knocking rhythm
with that grin, gliding suddenly
from your sinuous, small face.
Don’t let this be Breaking
again.
