September 16th Poem by Kayluh Michelle Ennis

September 16th

I thought the world was perfect,
and so was the world around me,
but the older i grew in age,
the more i began to see,
i never saw daddy,
as much as i would like,
i missed him so dearly,
but no one could see inside,
he wastes his day,
in a lonely bar,
he never calls,
he's way to far,
and just one word,
from my mouth,
could make him stop,
but i can't let it out,
he bets on my birthday,
when he goes to the lottery,
September 16th,
he thinks the number lucky,
I bet he drinks,
16 beers a day,
just to show he cares,
and still remembers me,
and maybe if i,
were born on the first,
he'd only drink one,
he'd hardly be hurt,
and i were never born,
therer would be no number to call,
maybe my daddy,
wouldn't ever drink at all.
