Set Aside Poem by Anna Liners

Set Aside

Together they sit.
Saying something
Talking to one another.
In the corner,
face the other way.
I cannot see their faces.

A whisper passes
A giggle sounds.
One strange look is cast my way.
I avert my eyes.
Pretending not to notice.
Pretending that I am
Ignorant
Oblivious
Disconnected.

My bubble has burst.
My sheild lays defeated.
I cannot pretend anymore.
I break away.
Break loose from the pack.
Trying,
Just trying,
To be satisfied,
With just my own mind.
