Seven Shades Poem by Eric Paeplow

Seven Shades

So sweet the hour, the night divine
Neath the starlit skies, clear and bright
When the world appears to lie and sleep
Under silent skies and blankets deep
I rest beneath the moon and stars
Wide awake, at the midnight hour
As I search the seven shades of night
Which mask the gates and hide the sight
Of those who entreat entrance to Heaven
Their ghostly forms, standing in rows of seven
Each thinly masked by the shades of night
As they each, patiently stand and wait
While Endymion admires their grace
And Selene shines down from above
And sees in those here lost and loved
Above the valleys, dim and dark
And the mountain's snow, both white and stark
As each soul, reaches their place of rest
Above the earth, and neath the stars
And look down, upon the sea and sky
Where they shall forever, rest and play
And while the world around, quietly sleeps
I watch and smile, as their souls are freed
While I lie and look through the seven shades
At lines of souls, trapped between these worlds
Of the living and the dead, for one moment more
While their ghostly voices, tonight shall flow
And ring true, to those they've loved
Who lie and listen, to the music of a dream
As their ghostly words, can almost seem
To intrude upon their slumbering minds
With thoughts of those they've loved and lost
And with their every deed, did mingle love
