Shadows Poem by C.A. Morrow

Shadows

When I see you now, it is only in shadows
Smiling that smile that melted my past
Like distant summer days and harvest meadows
You comfort my memory and hold me fast

The regret of not having more time to share
Is eased by the moments that whisked us away
For sighs of passion soon turn to an empty stare
That fail to sustain us through another day

Nothing stands still, all is in constant change
Moments can't be framed in reality's frills
Paths are chosen as dreams they rearrange
Yet, it's the memories that the empty void fills

So, wherever this journey takes you from here
I'm glad I stopped to savour the spell
Nothing was ever promised between our fear
On those shadows I can only dwell
