I walked along the winding road,
Where autumn leaves had kissed the ground;
The wind whispered of days long past,
Of voices lost, of vanished sound.
The river flowed with tireless grace,
Its waters never stayed the same;
Yet in its song I heard the truth:
All life must move, all hearts reclaim.
I saw the fields I used to know,
Where children ran with laughter bright;
Now grass has grown, and silent stones
Mark where they danced in fading light.
The old oak stands, yet bends with age,
Its rings hold stories deep and wide;
It teaches me that time will turn,
And nothing waits, nor can abide.
Yet memory keeps a stubborn flame,
A warmth no wind or rain can quench;
It bends the heart, it molds the soul,
It softens change, it gives us sense.
So let the years sweep on their course,
And let the seasons rise and fall;
For in the mirror of the past,
We see ourselves, and know it all.
