Shadows Only Poem by Zechariah Macon

Shadows Only

The city is Nightfall
but the lights
are as bright as day
it frames the walls
gives them shape
definition
a name
it gives them
the face of a child you know

the city is Lost Children
but
they have found a way
as straight as the river
as it fuels our tears
gives them a reality
a despair
this world is framed
by our tears
forever climbing
mountains we could
never dream of reaching
as the stars
give our faith substance
and blessings of the future flesh
peace to our wandering souls
as misgivings
as fear as the difference
is made
between disparities
and Nightfall
the moon wanes
and our paths are lit
by Shadows only.
