Sharing Smiles Poem by Katherine H. Belle

Sharing Smiles

Rating: 5.0

You look like her when you smile
But only in all of the ways that matter
The way your whole face lights up
And shines so brightly
That I may go blind while
Falling in love with you

The way the corners of your mouth
Kiss the corners of your eyes
As your breath catches
And your laugh flutters
And my heart stops completely

And if you were she
I'd take you in my arms
And hold you so closely
That we would melt into one another
As I whispered to you
All of my never ending affections

I'd tell you that
When I look at you
And see her face
My heart breaks and mends
A thousand times over
And I'm not quite sure what to do

Because I fall in and out of love so easily these days

All it takes is
The curve of a smile
The sound of a laugh
The way your delicate fingers
Brush through your hair
And suddenly it catches the light
And on a single strand
I can see the universe

It catches my eye
And makes its way to the center of my soul
Where it threatens to rip apart my very being
And I would gladly lay here
With my liquid soul stretched thinly across the floor

If only

If only

If only
