She Didnt Know Poem by Meg Growcott

She Didnt Know

She never knew the exact moment she was
broken; it could have been when she had her
world turned upside down, maybe that
accident she witnessed when she was 8, or
that her father drank. The truth is that
nothing could break her more than herself.
The possibility of letting someone else break
her didn't exist, the moment she drew on her
body with a silver paint brush was the
moment she knew she broke herself. She let
boys use her for their benefit and let girls
poke and prod at her insecurities, she didn't
care for anyone else, nor did she care for
what she put in her body, she let people force
and convince her to do things she didn't
want to do. Her mind turned to liquid, and
she no longer cared for the things she loved
before. She didn't remember her life before
this, she forgot everyday as a new one began,
she began to lose track of the time, her blinds
drawn shut and her doors locked. Her heart
became caged and wrapped in barbwire,
nobody cared for her anymore, they didn't
know what to do, how they let her get so far
away

nobody let her get this far, she was
destroyed before anyone realised, before she
even realised.
