She Gains Nothing Poem by Matt Mercer

She Gains Nothing

The odds and ends are finally gone
And the spirit has left too
Singing her lonely song
Off to place, brand new

The castle here, once stood proud
Now she crumbles into dust
The crash was oh so loud
Down and out, with one sweeping gust

Over the lush green lands
She embraced it all
Holding it in her hands
Her world so small

The softly lit moon becomes revealed
In the bright light, she reaps
And the world becomes her shield
As within her beauty she sleeps

From the stormy seas, she comes ashore
To a land amongst the few
Frightened, in the darkness galore
Where she thought she’d always knew

Her allegiance would change
And this foundation would collapse
Her life and love would rearrange
As the time would fail to lapse

And yet, she remains so ignorant of her fate
Straying from the times that could have been
She says she’ll never arrive on time, but late
But only if she could have seen
