She Was Your Daughter Poem by Tabassum Yasmin

She Was Your Daughter

She would have wept,
But wiped your tears as well.
And when that stick would not have been enough
To support your crooked back and shattered self,
She would have rushed to hold your hand;
To hold you back from falling, just the way you did.
And flashed that smile to light up your world.
And soothe away all your worries.
Slowly though you would have realized,
That she wasn't a girl but an angel.
And on the day when she would have been groomed as a bride,
You would have wept out of pride.
And she would have rushed to wiped your tears once again.
But, Alas! you never gave her a chance,
Never cradled her in your arms,
And noticed her innocent smile.
She was the daughter you never loved,
The daughter whom you discarded this morning,
In nearby dustbin,
Among the trash and dirt.
You never heard her pleas to be loved.
She was the blessing you never accepted,
And the angel you never recognized.
She was your daughter.
