Pale light invades the peace of somber morn
And blows the blankets off of bloodshot eyes.
I wake, only to find my dreams outworn,
Though now I see through all their golden lies,
Beyond which I stare up at bruised sky
That recalls the radiance of its faded stars.
As bitter wind blows out the last candle
That warms a child shivering in the dark.
I weep for him, the child that I once was,
His vengeful ghost still haunts me to this day
His dying wish, he whispers in my ear,
That no more dreams are left to slip away.
