Shit Keeps You Going - Poem by Michael Poston

I'm scared when I wake up
I'm scared when I'm at work
if you really knew me you would know
I didn't have a dad and theres nothing i could do

i taught myself to tie a tie
but i couldn't teach myself all my life
thank god for my mom
and for everyone else involved

you grow up fast but not fast enough
to stop the bleeding from your heart
its clenched in a fist with salt
i lay in bed but i don't cry, its not my fault

but you don't know how bad it hurts
it hurts every night
so i get up and fight
that shit keeps you going

Shit keeps you going
even when i couldn't work
i decided to fight back, no apologies
Shit keeps you going

when you feel like shit
find out what keeps you going
you can overcome
but only with love.
