Side Poem by Richard Betts

Side

What if you and I
Both believed deeply in the Lord?
And you and I
Were on opposite sides of a great war.

And each one believed
With all his soul,
That God was on his side
And would march him through the battle whole.

How do the Gods
And the Heavens decide,
Who will live
And who will die?

And how does God
Pick and choose,
Which side will win
And which side will lose?
