Siffle Redemption Poem by Peter O Keeffe

Siffle Redemption

I lurk where it's damp, I live where it's moist,
I excel in the wet and the warm and the foist. I bring those who are happy right down to their knees. (Those who don't know me might think I'm a tease....)
I'm a sexually transmitted disease.

I hang around on corners,
On junctions cause grief
The people who jump me
Maintain I'm too brief,
Whether flashing or green I'll ease you through the night….. but I ain't no high class hooker just a plain old traffic light.

My lifespan it is short, my outlook is bleak, Yet I could hit the headlines and stay for a week, But lying dormant in a rucksack is not the life for me, Let me go out with a bang not impotent UXB.

The noise is explosive, it's shock and surprise, the white light and flash do not trick or disguise
If you think I'm amoral as I continue on bezerk, fear not my friend I'm just the good old firework.

At the end I'm all burnt out,
Though I 'Catherine wheeled' them all, frenetic my activity though I did not heed the call. Slow down said the tall man with a sharp intake of breath...
Of course it was the reaper presenting me with Death.

So if you are the terrorist,
May he meet you really soon, and if you fly to beat the lights..you'll meet him too you goon
But if all you seek is happiness and pursue the love of life
At all costs avoid the STD
It'll only bring you strife.
