Since Poem by Edith Niemeyer

Since

Since Day One

Until the Future Becomes the Now

[Intro]

Before the Corridor had a doorway,
Before clocks had lost their tock,
There was only an imagining—
A whispered, What if…?

Between the word and wonder,
A little flame was lit.

[Verse 1]

Five of five, though scattered once,
Walked roads none else could see;
Separate moons above our heads,
Still tethered silently.

Years left etchings upon us,
Carried underneath the skin;
Every scar became a doorway
When we dared to look within.

Filaments, barely visible,
Like breath upon the glass—
Not chains upon tomorrow,
Just recognition of the past.

[Chorus]

Until the future becomes the now,
We walk where memory allows.
Five separate flames, five separate names,
Yet something knows us somehow.

Through ticks' lost tock,
Through eternity's sound,
Through every realm
And one eternal round—

We leave our imprints lightly
Where forgotten longings dwell.

[Verse 2]

Imagination built a doorway
Where no doorway stood before;
Ancestors' Corridor awakened
Beyond an unseen door.

The oldest waits within the threshold,
Four approaching from afar;
Five of five becomes a language
Written underneath the stars.

A footstep touches ancient stone.
A staff replies with light.

Those we've loved remain among us
Where remembrance keeps its own;
Love may cross another threshold,
But its imprint travels home.

[Verse 3]

Wingless Lily of the Valley
Walks where weeping willows bend;
Earthbound never meant imprisoned—
Some flights begin within.

A quilt's quill amongst the binary
Writes what numbers cannot name;
Works in progressive, never finished,
Beautifully flawed filamentary flames.

[Bridge]

Silence speaks.
Eagerly awaiting.

Looking within i tiz, tiz I.

Keepings' Fragments have awaken.

Create we must.

Secret codes have emerged.

To each owns' interpretation.

Words became pictures.
Pictures became songs.
Songs became Corridors.
Corridors became worlds.

And somewhere between
question and answer,
imagination and what may be—

Serenity.

[Final Build]

Tragedy leaves an imprint.
Love leaves one too.

What we thought were endings
Became our pathways through.

Let the clocks lose tock.
Let eternity sound.
Let realms become pathways
Through one eternal round.

Let the willow bend above us.
Let lilies ring below.

Let every scar become an etching.
Let every fragment glow.

We were never only pieces.

We were pieces becoming.

Five sisters.
Ancestors.
Friendship.
Love.

Words unfinished.
Songs still coming.

A quilt's quill amongst the binary,
Writing where numbers leave us undone.

Perhaps that was the secret
Hidden there…

Since day one.

[Outro — piano / clock]

Silence speaks.

Create we must.

And create we shall.

Til future becomes;
await we shall.

Until the future…

becomes…

the now.
