Sincerely, Your Government Poem by Makayla Johnson

Sincerely, Your Government

Rating: 5.0

I'm sorry, sir,
but your question is inappropriate,
invalid,
unnecessary.

I'm sorry, sir,
but you simply cannot say that,
not here,
and not now.

The government respects you,
we really do,
but we want what is best for all.
Protest if you like,
but the majority is behind us.

Believe us when we say
that we know what we are doing.
We are helping,
helping make society better,
making it stronger.

We are not trying to silence you,
on the contrary,
we'd love to hear your side,
But our country must be strong
and there is not enough strength
in the words of one.

Success is rewarded,
of course this is certain.
But failure?
If it shouldn't be punished,
then what?
Shall we encourage it?

I'm sorry, sir,
but you have to leave.
Security will escort you out.
We respect your efforts,
truly,
but we must decline.

Oh, yes, it is true,
this country is free,
your opinion is entitled.
But we are simply much too busy
to listen.
