Sing, Yes Poem by Majid Gaggi

Sing, Yes

sing, yes sing for me
I, the vast land
Rich land of Mesopotamia
Yes intone hymns, pop
Play and pure melodies
On the strings of Sumerian guitar
I am who breastfed you
From my breasts:
Tigris and Euphrates
Milk and pure water
I'm who fed you
The abundant soft produce
My glamour taught you vocabulary
And The Dictionary of daily life
You learn the letters
And the order of the alphabet
Since the cuneiform writing
I embarked on my land
The first human laws
I have written on the corners
Lines of text from the Babylonian writings
I throw Assyrian and Sumerian
I whispered into Scheherazade ears
That she have not to sleep tonight
So that she can save herself and others
Of his death and eternal perdition
She decide to overcome
The Dreaded Shahriar...
Which delights every night lunar?
And kill a young virgin
So she start night after another
Until she reached a thousand a night
... And night
But is there will be any new Scheherazade
Who will be sent to my land?
To save our people there
