Sleep Poem by Catherine Dangoma

Sleep

A long quiet hours of being seated in silence.
How comes the one who deserves more attention was the one on the wheel?

A black day filled with dark emotions.
A dear one was snatched by the claws of everlasting sleep.
The earth was empty in need of an occupier.
So it dialed the line of a dear one.

This soul unconsciously picked the call,
Hesitated but unwillingly concur to its demand.
It was indeed a tremendous event.
Who is capable of going against its call?

The physical got swallowed up by the earth's large and ever welcoming arms of embrace.
A beautiful ugly morning that gave birth to horrible memories.

For a quiet moment, imagination of this dear one waking up from sleep kept dribbling the mind.
Impossible! Was the word spoken by the quiet audible voice.
This dear one has been swallowed by an eager land of no return.

Seated silently while the vehicle kept moving,
The thought of someday being laid down battled with the mind.
Everyone will get a call from this malicious earth.
One will quit living and submit to the superiority of the mother.

I fearlessly await the day I will journey to this land of no return.
The day I will close my eyes and never open.
The day I will be sound asleep.
