Sleep, Child. Poem by Augustina Gbenegbara

Sleep, Child.

I lay down here, staring into space.
My eyes sleep ladden, yet the maiden I crave flees.
Thoughts cloud my blank mind
My heart within my chest, my toes upon my bed.
And when I wriggle like a worn in the rain,
I hear the moon whisper gently,
'Sleep, child... rest'.
In all her radiance and beauty, she reaches out to sing me a lullaby.
Her companion cradle me, with a mild breeze and the twinkling stars lead the way to bed.
