Sleep, O' Friend Where Are You Poem by Samuel Richard Leonard

Sleep, O' Friend Where Are You

Sleep now creeps upon my wake;
pressing me until I surely break.
Why do you evade me when I call?
Why in my wake do you press me to fall?

I want to rest through the black of night,
not jolt and shake in another weary fight.
Bring unto me the ease of peace,
release my mind and give back my dreams.

I refuse to grovel even one day more;
what is life to live if each breath is a chore?
I will lay on lilac clouds when the sun departs,
and into sleep drift away beneath light of the stars.

Resonates with all who struggle to get to sleep. I like the lilac clouds. Perhaps if I think of them I might sleep better tonight!
