Sleeping Seas Poem by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

Sleeping Seas

Tumultuous clouds above keep vigil
On a cold, grey night, mourning the
Killing of visible stars...

Soot-darkness veils the brows of the
Skies in one orgy of perfidy, transmuting
The agelessness of heaven into a

Yolk of newness, fragile and tendril-tender.
Arrogant terns weave mock baskets for
Tears of heaven, plucked from the burning

Eyes of disconsolate clouds, mourning
This siege, the holocaust...
Underneath this hostile breath,

Moon rays crown the gaudy rim of seas
Down under, resplendent in their dreamy
Somnolent essence only.

Not a moiety of the megrims above,
Crude and celestial,
Shook the weltering waves which

Trussed and crooned behemoths
To early slumber, nursing vigils through
Stertorous surveillance.
