Sleepless In Mumbai Poem by Raj Rajesh

Sleepless In Mumbai

It's another hectic day in fast, non-stop life in Mumbai
Robed in solitude, I lie on the bed awake at midnight
The crows crow undeterred by the serenity of the night
A cat stalks a pigeon on my balcony
The whistle of the watchman rises and falls

The harried traffic has calmed down, though shadows still chase each other down the streets
The cool moon is busy dewing the grasses, while the stars shine white
Even the dreams have deserted me tonight
The dark is almost gone, the stars are about to set
The cuckoo takes over from the crow and the rooster awakens

Yet, another day welcomes yet another sleepless night in Mumbai
It’s time to get up and rush for work.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Many times, I spend sleepless nights. One night I had no sleep at all and I kept tossing and turning. Early morning, I thought of penning it down.
