Sliding Bevels Poem by Christopher Tye

Sliding Bevels

Sliding Bevels

Site work by shuttering joiners,
Loved and cared for by cabinet makers,
Inexpensive plastic ones on building sites,
Degrees of angles marked out,
Infinitely adjustable and useful,
Now loved by collectors of old tools,
Gleaming brass and polished steel.

Brass fittings or stainless steel,
Ebony and rosewood for high quality,
Very useful old idea still irreplaceable,
Every workshop should have at least one,
Long history stretching back centuries,
So many variations of this classic tool.
