Small Ad Poem by Behrad Nafissi

Small Ad

'For sale: baby shoes, never worn.'

In the beginning
Were you,
And I acknowledged
Your existence
In the third week
Of my pregnancy.

In you was life,
And the life was
The light of the family.
I was three months pregnant.
Your father was three years happy.
I was six months pregnant.
Your grannies were six decades excited.
I was nine month pregnant.
Everyone was…

Now I’m eleven month pregnant,
And no more people ask:
“when is the baby due? ”
“It’s a rare case of
False Pregnancy.” said the doctor.
But he is a liar. I know!

Never ever
Will I forget you my dear!
For you
I’m sitting here waiting
Forever and ever!

Because I know,
To all who received you,
Who believed in your name,
You gave power
To become children of God!
